What is a luxury property and what is luxury?

The word comes from the Latin luxus. According to the dictionary, it means excessive lavishness and ostentation, wealth. One can spend pages to look for how to define the term luxury, to identify when one stop talking about a gorgeous house or of a beautiful villa for sale in order to start speaking of a luxury property for sale or a special house for sale on the Côte d’Azur, in London, in Paris or in New York. As far as real estate is concerned, the localisation of the building is important. A property for sale in the French Côte d’Azur such as in Cannes, Saint Tropez or Grasse will make people dream compared with a luxury property for sale in Tours, Calais or Lens. However, luxury is a trend, it can be measured to the desire it creates and to its rarity.

A luxurious item has to be rare and unusual, it has to be different from the majority of the products from the same category, it even has to be unique. Its quality should be the best possible, its design perfect, it appearance should be noteworthy and its line refine! Be careful, as far as luxury is concerned beauty is, most of the time, subjective, it was what make luxury variable, people would even loose their mind of the sense of reality for it. Be reassured, the notion of luxury in real estate can be easily defined and it has evolved only according to trends, innovation and appearance. Buying a luxurious property is only affordable to a very limited number of people. They are all gathered in specific geographical areas, districts, cities or regions. You will not find a beautiful luxurious property of more than 250 sq. with more then 4000 sq. of land at a price under one million euros in Aix-en-Provence, but in Central Park for such a price you would only have a small flat.

Luxurious properties are estimated depending on a price range that varies according to the standing of the properties, their technological equipment and their architectural complexity. It also depends on the reputation of the owner, if it belongs or not to a kind of elite according to wealth criteria or to a specific line of business that illustrates success. In fact, luxury responds to a state of mind, to a quality of life, to an art of life that demonstrates the success of the very few people that can afford it. The more successful someone is, the more his luxury is excessive and ostentatious. This is the reason why the properties of star people and of VIP are sold at immoderate prices, because it is not only the property that is sold, but overall, it's the image of the celebrity's glamour that is being sold, a part of his identity, a dream and the movie of one’s life. What defines the price of a luxurious property is its history, its quality, the quantity of services offered to enjoy life under the best conditions available the world.
